HEALTHIER, HAPPIER VERSIONS OF THOSE IN NEED OF SUPPORT.

School-based health care is a powerful tool for achieving health equity among children and adolescents who unjustly experience disparities in outcomes simply because of their race, ethnicity, or family income. It’s also a commonsense idea gaining currency across the country: place critically needed services like medical, behavioral, dental, and vision care directly in schools so that all young people, no matter their zip code, have equal opportunity to learn and grow.

Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health School-Based Mental Health Services

where health & education intersect
MISSON: Provide individual and group counseling, crisis assessments and referrals onsite to middle- and high-school youth struggling with mental health issues—as well as their parents and teachers.

ABOUT:
Everyday adolescents struggle with anxiety, depression, thoughts of suicide, attention deficit disorder, bipolar disorder, the emotional trauma of bullying and other disorders along the autism spectrum. According to the National Institute of Mental Health: 20 percent of youth ages 13 to 18 years, and 13 percent of ages 8 to 15 years, live with a mental health condition. To address these issues, the Fitzgerald Family Foundation joined Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health in providing a mental health counselor onsite in 11 area schools in Chicago’s northwest suburbs; 7 high schools and 4 middle schools.
